Does MINI CarData collect location data without actively using navigation?
Yes. MINI collects and stores location data anonymously for Floating Car Data services. The FCD service is performed to collect current information about road traffic on the existing navigation and Connected platforms. Every Connected-capable vehicle functions as a "mobile traffic detector" (floating car). The individual position and sensor data of these vehicles determined during the journey are transmitted together with the current time data to the MINI Connected centre and the contractually agreed traffic service provider. The processing of the data takes place completely anonymously after the transmission and is done free of charge. No data will be transmitted if you deactivate the SIM card permanently installed in your MINI. If you wish to deactivate the traffic information service including FCD, you can request this in writing from MINI Customer Service.
