MINI how-to guide: This is how you set up the main key of a MINI Digital Key Plus for your MINI in the MINI App.

Depending on the country, model and equipment of your MINI with Operating System 9 and your smartphone or smartwatch model, you can lock or unlock and start your MINI with the MINI Digital Key Plus. If your country and your mobile device support the "ultra-wideband" (UWB) mobile standard, your MINI will unlock automatically when you approach it. To start the engine, your mobile device just needs to be in the passenger area. If your country or your mobile device does not support the "ultra-wideband" (UWB) mobile standard, data is transmitted via the "Near Field Communication" (NFC) mobile standard. You then need to hold your smartphone or smartwatch against the door handle to unlock the vehicle and place it in the smartphone tray to start the engine. You must set up the main key of a MINI Digital Key Plus once and you can then activate it on several other mobile devices. The MINI Digital Key Plus is stored in the Wallet app of your smartphone.

Requirements:

  • Your MINI with Operating System 9 requires the option "Comfort Access" (SA 322) or "MINI Digital Key" (SA 3DK).
  • Your MINI must support the MINI Digital Key Plus.
  • Your smartphone must support the MINI Digital Key Plus.
  • You must be in the vehicle and logged in with your MINI ID as the main user.
  • You will need both vehicle keys or the Setup Card for the MINI Digital Key Plus in the passenger area.
  • Your MINI must be added to your MINI ID in the MINI App.
  • Your MINI requires a mobile connection. Avoid places with poor mobile phone reception, such as underground car parks.

Important notes:

  • After setting up the main key, you can activate the MINI Digital Key Plus on several other mobile devices.

  • You can activate the MINI Digital Key Plus in the Wallet app on your Apple iPhone or on your compatible Apple Watch.

  • For Android devices or Apple iPhones, the Wallet app of the main user may show an activation code that the recipient of a shared digital key must enter for activation in the vehicle. When using iMessage with an Apple iPhone, sending the activation code is optional.

  • In MINI Countryman models (from 07/2025), in MINI Cooper models with a combustion engine (from 07/2025), in MINI Cooper Electric models (from 09/2025) and in MINI Aceman Electric models (from 09/2025) with the option "Comfort Access" (SA 322) or "MINI Digital Key" (SA 3DK), you will receive a Setup Card for comfortable and secure setup of the MINI Digital Key Plus as well as a Service Card.

  • Setting up the main key of a MINI Digital Key Plus for your MINI with Operating System 9 (from 11/2025) in the MINI App automatically links the main key to your MINI ID.
  • You can then activate your MINI ID in your MINI with Operating System 9 (from 11/2025) in a single step.

The availability and the range of functions of the MINI Digital Key Plus can vary depending on the country of delivery, the model and the equipment of your MINI and the model and software version of your smartphone.
