MINI how-to guide: This is how you set the distance to the vehicle in front using Distance Control in your MINI with Operating System 9.

Distance Control in your MINI with Operating System 9 allows you to set a distance to a vehicle in front in addition to Cruise Control. The system adjusts the speed of your MINI so that a set distance is maintained. When driving freely, the system maintains the set speed you have selected. You can activate or deactivate Distance Control using the MODE button on the steering wheel.

Requirements:

  • Your MINI with Operating System 9 requires the option "Driving Assistant Plus" (SA 5AT) or "Driving Assistant Professional" (SA 5AU).

Important notes:

  • The system does not react to crossing and oncoming traffic.
  • The distance can be set in several stages and is dependent on the respective speed for safety reasons.
  • If the vehicle in front brakes to a standstill and then drives off again shortly afterwards, functional limitations may occur.
  • Excessive speed differences to other vehicles can cause accidents, e.g. when approaching a slow-moving vehicle at high speed, when a vehicle suddenly swerves into your driving lane or when approaching a stationary vehicle at high speed.
  • The system does not relieve you from your responsibility to assess the traffic situation correctly. Due to system limits, the system cannot react appropriately in all traffic situations. There is risk of accident, danger of injury and danger of property damage. Adapt your driving style to the traffic conditions, observe the traffic situation and remain ready to steer and brake at all times so that you can actively intervene if necessary.

    System limits:

    • The system limits of the cameras and radar sensors apply.

    The range of functions and operating principle vary depending on the country of delivery and the equipment of your MINI.

    Step 1:
    Press the direct access button "Driving settings menu" in the control centre.

    Alternatively, select the following in the MINI system: Apps menu > "VEHICLE" (menu bar at the top) > "Driving settings".

     

    Step 2:

    Select "Driver assistance".

     

    Step 3:

    Select "Drive".

     

    Step 4:

    Select "Distance Control".

     

    Step 5:

    Select "Distance".

     

    Step 6:

    Select the desired setting.

     

    Note: Depending on the national-market version and equipment, you can alternatively activate "situational distance control" in step 5, avoid unintentional overtaking in the slower driving lane and switch to Cruise Control without Distance Control.
