MINI how-to guide: This is how you activate or deactivate Side Collision Warning in your MINI with Operating System 9.

The Side Collision Warning in your MINI with Operating System 9 helps you to avoid an impending side collision. For this, radar sensors monitor the space next to the vehicle from a minimum speed (depending on the country of delivery) and up to approx. 210 km/h. If, for example, another vehicle is detected with which a side collision is imminent, the system warns the driver with a flashing LED in the exterior mirror and a vibrating steering wheel. In an emergency, the system intervenes with an active steering intervention.

Requirements:

  • Your MINI with Operating System 9 requires the option "Driving Assistant Professional" (SA 5AU).
  • The camera behind the windscreen must detect lane boundaries for the Side Collision Warning with steering intervention to be active.

Important notes:

  • The system uses your vehicle's cameras and radar sensors.
  • The function may be restricted, for example, in the following situations:
    • On tight corners or narrow roads.
    • When approaching a vehicle in front.
    • Up to ten seconds after the drive-ready state was switched on via the Start/Stop switch.
  • The system does not relieve you from your responsibility to assess the traffic situation correctly. Due to system limits, the system cannot react appropriately in all traffic situations. There is risk of accident, danger of injury and danger of property damage. Adapt your driving style to the traffic conditions, observe the traffic situation and remain ready to steer and brake at all times so that you can actively intervene if necessary.

System limits:

  • The system warns from a minimum speed. The minimum speed is country-specific and is displayed in the MINI Interaction Unit.
  • At speeds above approx. 210 km/h, the system is deactivated.

The range of functions and operating principle vary depending on the country of delivery and the equipment of your MINI.

Step 1:
Press the direct access button "Driving settings menu" in the control centre.

Alternatively, select the following in the MINI system: Apps menu > "VEHICLE" (menu bar at the top) > "Driving settings".

 

Step 2:

Select "Driver assistance".

 

Step 3:
Select "Safety and warnings".

 

Step 4:
Select "Side Collision Warning".

 

Step 5:
Switch the Side Collision Warning on or off.

 

Note: You can set the intensity of the steering wheel vibration in the "Feedback at the steering wheel" menu.
