MINI how-to guide: This is how you park your MINI with Operating System 9 using Park Assist.

Park Assist in your MINI with Operating System 9 supports you when parking in parking spaces parallel or perpendicular to the road. Ultrasonic sensors measure the surroundings on both sides of your MINI. The system calculates suitable parking spaces and the optimum parking line and takes over vehicle control during the fully autonomous parking manoeuvre.

Requirements:

  • Your MINI with Operating System 9 requires the option "Parking Assistant Plus" (SA 5DN) or "Parking Assistant Professional" (SA 5DW).
  • The doors and luggage compartment in your MINI must be closed.

Important notes:

  • Park Assist supports reverse parking parallel to the road (parallel parking) and reverse or forward parking perpendicular to the road (bay parking).
    • To detect a parking space, Park Assist must detect an object, at least approx. 1 m long, as the boundary of the space, e.g. a parked vehicle.
    • A parallel parking space must be at least as long as your vehicle plus approx. 0.8 m, the minimum width is approx. 1.5 m.
    • A bay parking space must be at least as long as your vehicle, the minimum width is the width of your vehicle plus approx. 0.7 m.
  • Various icons are displayed on the MINI Interaction Unit to select the parking method. The order of the displayed icons corresponds to the priority parking option.
  • The current status of Park Assist is shown on the MINI Interaction Unit and, depending on the equipment of your MINI, in the Head-up Display.
  • Any intervention other than pressing the brake pedal will result in the interruption of the parking manoeuvre. To resume, select "Resume" on the MINI Interaction Unit.
  • At the end of the parking manoeuvre, the selector lever position "P" is engaged.
  • The system does not relieve you from your responsibility to assess the traffic situation correctly. Due to system limits, the system cannot react appropriately in all traffic situations. There is risk of accident, danger of injury and danger of property damage. Adapt your driving style to the traffic conditions, observe the traffic situation and remain ready to steer and brake at all times so that you can actively intervene if necessary.

System limits:

  • Park Assist detects parking spaces when driving straight ahead up to approx. 35 km/h.
  • The system cannot detect very low obstacles or protruding objects that are higher up, e.g. wall protrusions.
  • The system can only approximately determine the depth of bay parking spaces.

The availability, range of functions and operating principle vary depending on the country of delivery and the equipment of your MINI.

Step 1:

Drive past parked vehicles at a speed of up to approx. 35 km/h and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m.

Parking space search is activated.

Step 2:

While driving, press the Parking Assist button in the centre console control panel or stop and engage reverse gear.

The display of the parking assistance system is displayed. The status of the parking space search and possible parking spaces are displayed on the MINI Interaction Unit. An acoustic signal also sounds if a parking space is available.

Step 3:

Stop and select a suggested parking method on the MINI Interaction Unit, e.g. "Start reverse parking".

The system takes over the parking manoeuvre.

Step 4:

Follow the instructions on the MINI Interaction Unit.

You can use the brake to reduce the speed.

Step 5:

If necessary, you can adjust the parking position yourself after the automatic parking manoeuvre has ended.
