What is the difference between the MINI Digital Key and the MINI Digital Key Plus?

Depending on the country of delivery, model, production date and equipment, you can unlock or lock and start your MINI with the MINI Digital Key or the MINI Digital Key Plus on your compatible smartphone or your Apple Watch. While the MINI Digital Key uses the "Near Field Communication" (NFC) mobile standard, data is transferred with the MINI Digital Key Plus via "ultra-wideband" (UWB) and Bluetooth®.

To unlock or lock your vehicle with the MINI Digital Key, you must hold your mobile device to the door handle. The MINI Digital Key Plus unlocks your vehicle automatically when you approach, starts a welcome scenario and activates all functions for the vehicle start. To start the engine, you must place your mobile device with the MINI Digital Key in the smartphone tray. In conjunction with the MINI Digital Key Plus, it is sufficient for your mobile device to be in the passenger area.
