What advantages do passkeys offer when logging in to MINI apps or MINI web pages?

With passkeys, you can log in to MINI apps and MINI web pages conveniently and securely. If you log in on your devices, you will no longer need to remember passwords. Passkeys are also very secure login data. The technology is based on the "WebAuthentication" (or "WebAuthn") standard, which uses public keys for encryption. When the passkey is created, your device's operating system generates a unique encrypted key pair that is linked to your MINI ID. One of these keys is public and is stored on the MINI server. The other key is private and is required for the actual login. The MINI server never finds out what your private key is. No "shared secret" is transmitted, all personal login data remains securely on your end device. This means that passkeys are very well protected against phishing. Passkeys are cross-platform compatible and therefore work on devices from almost all manufacturers worldwide.
