The available charging power at a DC charging post depends on the maximum possible charging power of your MINI electric vehicle on the one hand, and on the currently available charging power of the charging station on the other. It is determined by current and voltage, but also depends on various other factors, with the weakest component determining the actual charging power that can be achieved.
The available charging power of a charging station can be temporarily reduced by a parallel charging process at the same station or by restrictions to the charging power at certain times. Many charging posts only provide maximum power after a few minutes.
In the vehicle, the following factors influence charging capacity:
- Vehicle equipment
- Charge and ageing condition of the battery
- Ambient and battery temperature
- Driving profile
- Auxiliary consumer
- Vehicle-specific charging settings
During the charging process, you can see on your vehicle's control display when the DC charging power is severely limited by the battery temperature. Intelligent and predictive functions, such as pre-temperature setting of the high-voltage battery, ensure optimum charging performance regardless of the outside temperature. The temperature of the high-voltage battery is automatically pre-set when you enter a DC charging station as a navigation destination. Alternatively, you can manually start battery preparation for faster DC charging via the MINI operating system or in the MINI App.
