Depending on the model and equipment, your MINI has "ALL4" all-wheel drive. The electronically controlled system distributes the driving power flexibly between the front and rear axles in coordination with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). Sensors constantly monitor wheel speeds, steering angle, accelerator pedal position and traction. Normally, power is mainly directed to the front axle in order to optimise fuel consumption. As soon as the system detects a loss of traction (e.g. on slippery surfaces such as snow or wet roads), an electro-hydraulic multidisc clutch activates the rear axle and can divert up to 50 percent of the power to it. In extreme situations, 100 percent power distribution to the rear axle is even possible. As a result, ALL4 improves both traction on slippery surfaces and driving stability when cornering.
