Why is my the navigation system in my MINI – featuring the MINI Controller – taking me along an implausible route?

For example, if the navigation system in your MINI – featuring the MINI Controller and MINI operating system with a tile-based menu (ID6) takes you on unnecessary detours or displays an implausible route, this might be due to an out-of-date version of the navigation map.

In some cases, discrepancies between the map data stored in the vehicle and the latest online traffic and route data might result in the route guidance not functioning as expected. Please therefore first check which version of the map is installed in your vehicle. If an older version of the map is installed, we recommend updating to the latest version.

The update can be carried out via the Download Manager in the personal area of the MINI Connected portal:

  • Vehicle overview
  • Map update
  • To the manual map update


Once the latest map data has been successfully installed, the route will be calculated using the most recent map data available.

Please contact your MINI Service Partner if the route guidance still appears implausible even after the map update.
