Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) refers to the ability of a technical device not to disturb other devices through unwanted electrical or electromagnetic effects or to be disturbed by other devices. All BMW Group vehicles have a General Operating Permit and have therefore passed the inspection by the German Federal Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Drivers for compliance with the legal requirements of the EU, as well as the stricter requirements of China, with regard to electromagnetic compatibility. Although electrical energy consumption is constantly increasing due to the need for safety, driver assistance and comfort systems, magnetic fields are limited by focussing on electromagnetic compatibility at an early stage of vehicle development. Their maximum levels are therefore far below all national and international limit values.
