Even at an early stage of vehicle development, a separate department of specialists at the BMW Group deals with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The car is developed with health aspects in mind and with regard to the operability of all technical and electrical components, as even the slightest electromagnetic interference can lead to undesirable mutual influences on electronic systems and to audible impairment of the reception of radio and communication systems in the vehicle. All electrical cables in the vehicle are laid under the premise of minimising electromagnetic emissions. The line routing and body structure are therefore optimised early on in the development process with the help of EMC simulations and measuring technology investigations. The BMW Group is continuously working to further reduce electromagnetic pollution in vehicle interiors, which is already classified as harmless to human health.
