Why does the seat belt warning sound in my MINI even though I am wearing my seat belt?

The seat occupancy in your MINI is detected by two components: The seat belt buckle switch and seat occupancy mat. If the seat occupancy mat detects a seat being occupied with at least 12 kilograms (e.g. a package) without the seat belt being engaged into the seat belt buckle, a visual and acoustic seat belt warning is issued. To deactivate the seat belt warning, you can engage the seat belt into the buckle or store heavy objects in the footwell or luggage compartment.
