What is a "relay attack" and is my MINI protected against it?

A "relay attack" is a method with which unauthorised persons can pick up the radio signal of the vehicle key, extend it over long distances and open vehicles without additional safety standards. In MINI vehicles, the position of a verified vehicle key is therefore also determined. The vehicle only unlocks if the vehicle key is in the immediate vicinity. In vehicles with production from 2021, position determination and data transfer are carried out via the ultra-wideband (UWB) mobile standard. In addition, the vehicle key remote control deactivates automatically after two minutes at rest.
