For your safety and optimum driving comfort, it is recommended that the tyres on the same axle have as similar a tread depth as possible. If the difference is more than approximately 2 millimetres, both tyres on the axle should be replaced to ensure balanced and safe drivability.
For MINI vehicles equipped with MINI ALL4, it is also important that all four tyres have as similar a tyre rolling circumference as possible. For models with combustion engines, it is therefore recommended for all four tyres to be renewed at the same time, as different tyre circumferences can put strain on the transfer box. On many fully electric MINI ALL4 models, however, it is also possible for tyres to be changed in pairs on a single axle.
To improve driving safety, tyres with the greater tread depth should, where possible, be installed on the rear axle, as this is crucial for the vehicle's stability. It is not possible to swap tyres between the axles of vehicles with mixed tyres – that is, different tyre sizes on the front and rear axles. In this case, tyres must always be fitted in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
For further information about your MINI, please consult your MINI retailer, who will advise you on the appropriate course of action for your vehicle.
